OCMC's Board President, Helen Nicozisis, Receives Humanitarian and Church Service Achievement Award
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center’s Board President, Mrs. Helen
Nicozisis, was awarded with a Humanitarian and Church Service
Achievement Award on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the 29th Annual
Hellenic Heritage Achievement and National Public Service Awards Dinner.
The American Hellenic Institute chose to honor Helen Nicozisis in
recognition of her involvement in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, at the
diocesan and parish level, and for her many charitable and humanitarian
efforts, especially the critical role she has played on the Board of
OCMC.
Mrs. Helen Nicozisis has been on the Board of Trustees of the Orthodox
Christian Mission Center since the early 1980s and has been its Board
President since 2001. She is the first lay person and woman to be
elected as President. During Helen’s service on the Board she has seen
the growth of the Mission Teams program, the inception of the Agape
Canister program, the expansion of the SAMP program and the
multiplication of OCMC Missionaries serving in the field.
Helen Nicozisis accepted the award surrounded by her family and friends,
“I accept this honor in gratitude for all the people who have supported
me and worked with me. First and foremost, I share this award with my
loving family and especially my husband, Louis. Also, I proudly share
this award with the OCMC staff and with all the OCMC Missionaries and
Mission Team members – those who have served, those who are in the field
and those who are preparing to serve. It is through all of them that
OCMC is providing spiritual and humanitarian aid to God’s people around
the world.”
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) is the official
international missions and evangelism agency of the Standing Conference
of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the Americas (SCOBA); helping Orthodox
