Members of the Assembly of Bishops Participate in Religious Freedom Summit in Washington D.C.

Members of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America participated in the International Religious Freedom Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 13-15. Archbishop Elpidophoros, Chair of the Assembly, delivered remarks entitled “The Rising Tide of Religious Nationalism,” as a featured speaker of the summit (read the full text here).

Additionally, in concurrence with the main summit, an ecumenical prayer service, co-organized by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and In Defense of Christians, took place at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, D.C.  The annual prayer service witnessed inter-Christian cooperation while lamenting the reconversion of Hagia Sophia iback into a mosque. Archbishop Elpidophoros offered a keynote address (read the full text here), and Metropolitan Joseph, Vice-Chair, and His Grace Bishop Irinej offered prayers during the service. Also in attendance was Archbishop Daniel.
