Share the Light Sunday

January 18, 2015

"For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:20ff)

Beloved Clergy, Godly Monastics, and Blessed Faithful:

We greet you in the name of the Lord. We live in an age thirsty for an authentic word of love and truth. There are many—our own children and grandchildren even—who are searching for a compelling testimony and accessible presentation of "what we have seen and heard" as sons and daughters of God. But touching their hearts requires that we "go out into the highways and along the hedges," as our Lord commands us, and speak to them where they are (cf. Luke 14:23).

Doing so is not easy, but there is good news: we know where people today often look for answers about life and ultimate questions. They turn to the Internet: to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other websites. The importance of face-to-face ministry will always remain, but the authentic Church of Christ must also cultivate a strong presence online and in social media.

The start of a New Year is a time to dedicate ourselves to positive change. Today, as we celebrate "Share the Light Sunday," we invite you to learn more about and support the ministry of the Orthodox Christian Network (OCN). Its mission is to inspire, inform, and bring comfort to Orthodox Christians and seekers worldwide, complementing the work of local parishes and strengthening the Church in the digital age. OCN produces a wide variety of multimedia resources and reaches millions per month through its website, three Internet radio stations, podcasts, live video broadcasts, and extremely popular social media platforms.

As the media arm of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, OCN has been sharing Christ’s good news with the world for nearly 20 years. Now is the time to stand with this media ministry and make it even stronger. Visit OCN’s website at www.myocn.net to listen to broadcasts, watch videos, read articles, and share what you find with friends and family members. It is our prayer that you will become long-term supporters of OCN, both financially and in spreading the word about this ministry to the faithful, as well as those still seeking faith.

May we never "stop speaking about what we have seen and heard," and may our Lord bless you abundantly in the coming year.

Faithfully in Christ,

The Right Reverend Bishop Peter (Episcopal Liaison of OCN)

Rev. Dr. Christopher Metropulos (OCN Executive Director)
