| Integration of Faith | The models I use for therapy (Person Centered, ACT) do not prescribe a particular worldview. However, as a practicing convert to the OCA, who has spent about 10 years trying to foster a Christian Orthodox "phronema," I offer a special familiarity and acceptance that contemporary Western thinkers do not have toward Eastern Orthodoxy. Devout Orthodox believers can face resistance and confusion from therapists who identify ascetical practices, mystical beliefs, and the pursuit of humility as "cognitive distortions." My hope is to provide a therapeutic relationship in which Orthodox believers do not fear being fundamentally misunderstood. |
