Families from South Ossetia Apprehensive About Resettlement Plans

For the 42 families taking refuge in the School for Blind Children in downtown Tbilisi, the one advantage to their location is that the Sheraton hotel next door provides food. Leftover hotel food is a welcome break from pasta and buckwheat, their sole sustenance provided by major aid organizations.

IOCC in Georgia: Displaced Families Facing Harsh Winter

"We feel cut off up here," says Nanna, carrying her small son on her lap. "It is cold and we cannot properly care for our children." She and her husband were farmers in the village of Kemerti in South Ossetia, and like many who were displaced by this summer's fighting between Russian and Georgian forces, they fled with little more than the clothes on their backs.

IOCC Assists American Red Cross in Houston/Galveston Hurricane Clean-Up Effort

Baltimore, Maryland - International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) lent a hand recently to the American Red Cross in its effort to bring relief and recovery to communities in Houston and Galveston that were devastated by Hurricane Ike. IOCC delivered $140,000 worth of medical and hygiene supplies to the American Red Cross Auchan shelter in Houston.

ORTHODOX-CATHOLIC BISHOPS EXAMINE NAMING OF BISHOPS, CAMPUS MINISTRY AT ALABAMA MEETING

NEW YORK - The naming of bishops and the work of campus ministry led topics at the Joint Committee of Orthodox and Catholic Bishops' 24th meeting in Daphne, near Mobile, Alabama, October 1-3. Archbishop Oscar Lipscomb, retired archbishop of Mobile, Alabama, hosted the meeting. Archbishop Lipscomb and Archbishop Seraphim of Ottawa and Canada, currently serving as Administrator of the Orthodox Church in America, co-chaired the meeting.

Ike Aftermath: IOCC Front line Reports Trauma Counselors Desperately Needed

(Galveston, Texas) - As residents try to return to their damaged or destroyed homes in Texas, officials are still warning of a secondary health crisis due to the lack of water, power, and running sewers in some areas. International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) has received an initial assessment of the situation from its Emergency Response Network team, which arrived in Galveston on September 17 and will stay in the area for the next several days.

Prison Ministry Awareness Sunday Encyclical

We, the Hierarchs of SCOBA, are by the grace of God blessed to designate the Sixth Sunday of Pascha, this year on June 1, 2008, to be Prison Ministry Awareness Sunday in all Orthodox parishes of North America. For this reason, SCOBA took on the sponsorship of the Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM), accepting it as an Agency of SCOBA, much like International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC).
