FOURTH ANNUAL INTER-ORTHODOX CAMP CONFERENCE CONVENES IN FRONTENAC, MN

Garrison, NY -  Camp directors and staff representing various Orthodox jurisdictions of SCOBA convened for the fourth annual Inter-Orthodox Camp Conference this year in Frontenac, MN. The Orthodox Church in America and St. Mary Summer Camp of Minneapolis hosted the conference at Villa Maria Retreat Center during the weekend of January 26-30, 2006, gathering over 40 participants from across the country.

Rev. Harry Pappas, pastor of Saint Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Minneapolis, MN, offered two keynote presentations on the blessings of fostering inter-Orthodox involvement in camping programs.  Numerous workshops were also conducted throughout the weekend on a variety of topics, including staff selection and development, scheduling, curriculum, games and activities, short and long-range planning, crisis management, and craft ideas.

Dn. Constantine Lazarakis, Director of Ionian Village, stated: “It is always a blessing to share ideas and gain knowledge about this vital ministry for our young people with other Orthodox camp directors and staff.”  Next year’s conference will be hosted by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America Office of Camping Ministries.  For more information please contact the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries at youthoffice@goarch.org.
