Address of Archbishop Justinian at the 2011 Assembly of Bishops

Wednesday, July 06, 2011
I am glad to welcome the fruitful work of the Assembly for the time elapsed since its first plenary meeting in May 2010. First of all, I would like to admit that we came to deep understanding among the leadership, and I can attest to the spirit of brotherly love among us from the experience of my meetings and maintaining mutual contact with the Chairman of the Assembly, Archbishop Demetrios and Co-Vice Chairman, Metropolitan Philip. In turn, this cannot but have a positive impact on the interaction of the coworkers and assistants. In fact, I have to note the excellent work of the Secretariat of the Assembly, headed by Bishop Basil. read more »

Address of Metropolitan Philip at the 2011 Assembly of Bishops

Wednesday, July 06, 2011
I greet you all in the name of the risen Lord. We are still basking in the light of the glorious Resurrection, but ten days from now, next week, we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord. And somehow ? when we stop chanting, "Christ is risen from the dead," somehow I feel lonely, because this is the most joyful season of the year. Ten days later, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Pentecost, and we read in the Book of Acts that while the disciples were gathered in a hall in Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit descended on them like a mighty wind and filled them and filled the house where they were gathered, and that was the beginning of the Church and her mission to the world. read more »

Atlas of American Orthodox Christian Churches

Wednesday, June 29, 2011
The Atlas provides a "snapshot" of the Orthodox Christian Churches in the United States. It is addressed for the wide - Orthodox and non-Orthodox, academic and non-academic - audiences. Simultaneously, this book is an atlas, a reference book and a thematic monograph. It is an atlas because it contains numerous maps to show the historical development and present territorial patterns of Orthodox Church life in America. It is a reference book because it furnishes comprehensive information and statistical data on all American Orthodox Christian Churches. It is a thematic monograph because the essays in this book tell the story of the Orthodox Christian past and present in the United States. read more »

Great and Holy Pascha 2011

Sunday, April 24, 2011
Christ is risen! On this radiant and sublime feast the sorrow of the disciples of our Lord was turned to astonishment and joy. Those whose world had seemingly come to an horrific end, found that their world had, in fact, begun anew and with splendor. The great enemies of the human race: death, sin, the devil and his twisted cohorts, lay collectively defeated, mauled and ruined in the tomb. Hades laments at its loss. No more was sin to tyrannize us. No more was the uncertainty of death to hang around our necks like a mighty millstone bending the human race down to the ground. read more »
