Committee for Clergy Affairs

 Quarterly Report July 29, 2012

1. Activities and Status of Work:

  • held second teleconference of advisors via Skype on June 5, 2012
  • held first in-person meeting of full Committee with advisors June 14-15, 2012
  • confirmed Archbishop Nathaniel as Committee Secretary, to be assisted by Archpriest Eric Tosi
  • further refined terms of reference into 13 specific areas of concern
  • finalized and distributed questionnaire to all jurisdictions requesting documents and information about policies and procedures for areas of concern
  • continued to collect existing documents from all jurisdictions on areas of concern
  • repeated request for addition of an advisor from GOA for the Committee
  • reviewed 2013 & 2014 budgets in light of current year actual expenses
  • agreed to formally request a change of name from “Committee for Clergy Affairs” to “Committee for Clergy Matters” or simply “Committee for Clergy”
  • began a dialogue with Committee for Pastoral Practice via our respective Committee Facilitators about overlapping issues and ways of collaborating and sharing information


2. Plans for Further Work:

  • develop framework for interpreting and comparing data received from chancellors
  • identify sub-committees and delegate areas of concern for further development
  • determine need for paid staff for secretarial and/or technical support
  • identify and involve additional advisors, consultants and experts
  • next Committee meeting to be held in Chicago on Sunday, September 9, 2012, immediately prior to the Assembly of Bishops meeting


3. Major issues requiring response from full Assembly or Secretariat:

  • We are awaiting word on the addition of an advisor from GOA
  • We are requesting a change of name from “Committee for Clergy Affairs” to “Committee for Clergy Matters” or simply “Committee for Clergy”
